On 10th June, after an intensive planning phase and advance preparation period, the Schoberbahn project received the green light in the construction negotiations. Since then, the hard work on implementation and construction of the modern 6-seater chairlift has been ongoing and it should be ready to transport visitors as early as this winter season.
The chosen cable car type is a state-of-the-art D-Line from Doppelmayr; Managing Director Daniel Berchthaller reports why: “Customer comfort is a major concern for us, which is why we deliberately wanted to use the latest techniques/ technology.
In choosing Doppelmayr, it was therefore clear to us that we wanted the D-Line design for our new Schoberbahn. The extra seating comfort on the 6-seater chairs, the convenient and above all quiet drive, and the easy operation and maintenance of the installation were very important to us.
The modern design was also decisive for us. In summary, the new D-Line from Doppelmayr was simply the best match for our needs.”
The construction of the Schoberbahn on the Reiteralm is certainly one of the larger investments in the cable car industry for the coming winter.
After an intensive planning phase and processing of all official requirements, construction of the modern 6-seater chairlift began on schedule in June 2020. This large investment is now being implemented in the best agreement with all parties involved, including the landowners, authorities and suppliers.
With the implementation of this modern cable car, the ski area in the eastern area will be enlarged and the quality increased significantly. The altitude of the new lift also contributes to the natural snow reliability, so that more slopes are available from the early pre-season.
The existing Reiteralm III drag lift will be replaced or additionally extended by the new, modern 6-seater chairlift from Doppelmayr. The long cable car also increases the number of slopes. The wide, easy and in the lower area new piste invites the whole family to make fine carving turns.
The new, modern Schoberbahn offers even more comfort as an overall system and is implemented under the Doppelmayr motto "D-Line - Welcome to First Class". Maximum passenger comfort, quiet operation and time-saving maintenance make the D-Line first class. The armchairs are equipped with weather protection covers and seat heating. The modern sports seats invite you to take a relaxed ride up the mountain, including panoramic views of the Schobergipfel. The stations, valley and mountain stations, are also implemented in a modern, trendy style and carefully embedded in the surrounding natural landscape.
Reiteralm Schoberbahn chairlift and new piste
The new 6-seater chairlift from Doppelmayr will replace and at the same time extend the Reiteralm III drag lift. The technical name is "6-CLD-B" (6: number of people, CLD: chairlift detachalbe; B: bubble) - detachable 6-seater chairlift with bubbles. The valley station of the Schoberbahn is at 1584 meters and the mountain station at 1810 meters, an altitude difference of 226 meters. The travel time is 3.39 minutes and the transport capacity will be 2400 people per hour. A total of 45 armchairs will be available and 9 supports will be mounted on the route.
Managing Director of the Reiteralm Bergbahnen Daniel Berchthaller said " We, the entire Reiteralm team, are full of anticipation for this new, modern cable car. Our goal is that our guests have an even larger range of comfortable ascent aids and, above all, an even more varied range of slopes here on the mountain, which we have also achieved through the implementation of the new, modern 6-seater Schoberbahn chairlift. With the construction of this modern cable car, the entire Schladming Dachstein region will be upgraded and even more fun on the slopes will be offered on the World Cup slopes. For the current summer operation, it is particularly worth mentioning that the construction phase will not have any significant adverse effects on summer operations."
The associated new piste can also be sited in the landscape with a wonderful slope and is therefore classified as easy (blue piste), making it ideal for the many children and novices in our resort. Good and advanced skiers, however, will also be able to have a lot of fun with the beautiful wide piste and can perfect their carving turns there.
